Overhead Garage Door Opener

Electric garage door openers are important parts for overhead doors since they enable their automatic movement. Although the movement of overhead garage doors depends almost exclusively on the spring/cable system, the opener ensures automatic motion via a remote or wall button. Each opener has a motor drive mechanism, which controls how far the door will open and close. Most openers are mounted against the ceiling and are connected with a trolley, which in turn connects with an arm on the door that moves back and forth in order to enable the door's automatic movement.

All electric overhead door openers have a release cord, which can be pulled so that the opener can be disconnected and the door can open and close manually. They must also have safety sensors with a reverse mechanism, which will stop and reverse the door if someone is passing underneath. Since openers are motorized devices, each motor must have enough power to control the movement of the door. Motors are of different horsepower ranging from ½ for regular residential doors to even 1hp for really heavy ones, and so the overhead garage door opener must be chosen accordingly.
